Identity Story

SharQ Orchestra “a multinational ensemble” was born in 2008 from a vision – a vision that music can unite cultures, transcend borders, and preserve humanity’s shared heritage.
Founded by internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor Dr. Mohamad Hamami, SharQ Orchestra represents a new model of orchestral expression rooted in Arabic musical tradition and open to the world. The orchestra brings together musicians from diverse nationalities to create a shared artistic language that celebrates identity, dialogue, and cultural understanding.
The name SharQ, meaning “The East,” reflects the orchestra’s mission to illuminate the richness of Arabic musical heritage while embracing global collaboration.

Through powerful performances, original compositions, and educational initiatives, SharQ Orchestra revitalizes traditional repertoire and presents it to contemporary audiences with authenticity and innovation.
More than an orchestra, SharQ is a cultural movement — a platform for artistic diplomacy, heritage preservation, and human connection. It embodies the spirit of the United Arab Emirates as a meeting point of cultures and a beacon of creativity.
SharQ Orchestra’s purpose is simple yet profound: to connect hearts through music and build bridges between civilizations.
